PosiTector, PosiPen, and PosiTest coating thickness gages from DeFelsko – The Measure of Quality.
Coating thickness is arguably the single most important measurement made during application and inspection of protective coatings. Color, gloss, adhesion, impact resistance, and other factors are all affected by coating thickness.
A coating that is too thin may fail prematurely, may show bare substrate through the coating, or may not have the performance properties required of the finished film.
A coating that is too thick can crack, may not have correct color or gloss, or may just be a waste of paint.
An accurate coating thickness gage is therefore one of the most important instruments found in a coating inspectors tool kit.
For almost 60 years DeFelsko has proudly manufactured simple, durable, and accurate coating thickness gages and inspection instruments.
They are simple to use and require no electronics or batteries, making them intrinsically safe—ideal for explosive environments and even underwater.
The PosiTest and PosiPen are a rugged, easy-to-use, low-cost alternative in situations where quality goals require only a few readings.
The PosiTector 6000 coating thickness gage is DeFelsko’s most popular and advanced solution for measuring coating thickness for all metal substrates.
The PosiTector 6000 probes connect to the award winning PosiTector platform allowing a single gage body to accept all coating thickness, surface profile, environmental, soluble salt, gloss, hardness, and ultrasonic wall thickness probes manufactured since 2012.

The PosiTest DFT features the same probe technology as the PosiTector 6000 in a simple, economical format.
Capable of measurement speeds of over 60 readings per minute with either a ferrous or a combination ferrous/non-ferrous model available.
It’s ideal for users who want to measure coating thickness up to 1000 microns or 40 mils on metal substrates but don’t need the increased memory capacity, software storage options, or probe interchangeability found on the PosiTector platform.
The PosiTector 200 Ultrasonic Coating Thickness gage is uniquely able to measure the thickness of coatings on non-metallic substrates such as wood, plastic, and concrete.
Its use of ultrasound for dry film thickness measurement was pioneered by DeFelsko over 25 years ago and it remains the industry standard for coating thickness measurement over non-metals.
PosiTector 200 probes also connect to the PosiTector platform, providing interchangeability with the entire range of PosiTector probes.
The PosiTest PC affordably measures uncured powder coatings using non-contact ultrasonic technology to predict a cured thickness. It is able to measure uncured powder thickness on small, curved, and moving parts, making it ideal for training new operators or configuring automated lines.
