Measuring environmental conditions with the expanded family of PosiTector DPM Dew Point Meter models with enhanced remote monitoring, from DeFelsko—the Measure of Quality.

During the application of protective coatings, it is critical to ensure that environmental conditions stay within project specifications. Most coatings will not dry properly at low temperatures and high relative humidity.

It is critical is to ensure the surface temperature stays above the dew point- the temperature at which condensation forms on surfaces. This surface moisture is often invisible, but can cause corrosion and premature failure when trapped beneath a coating. Dew point is calculated based on air temperature and relative humidity.

However, the dew point isn’t the only limiting factor- a surface temperature that is too hot or too cold can negatively affect how coatings cure and bond.

Excessive wind speed can cause solvents to evaporate too quickly, while overspray wastes product and may damage nearby property. Hazardous wind conditions also jeopardize job site safety in a number of ways. While monitoring environmental conditions is important during the application of exterior coatings, these measurements are also important in manufacturing and production environments.

The PosiTector DPM Dew Point Meters are comprised of two components, a gage body and an environmental probe. The gage body is available in either Standard or Advanced models. All models feature a large 2.8” touchscreen, easy-to-navigate menus, memory, a weatherproof, dustproof, and water-resistant IP65-rated enclosure, and award-winning probe interchangeability. Additionally, both models feature SmartTrend Indicators that identify rising, falling, or stable readings, Auto Log mode that records environmental parameters, and alarms that indicate when the climate conditions are unsuitable for painting.

Advanced models feature additional memory, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, trend charts for graphing readings in real-time, and enhanced Auto Log mode for up to 8 months of continuous monitoring on a single set of batteries. Advanced models can also display and record wet bulb temperatures.

The PosiTector DPM family of probes measure environmental parameters quickly and easily using high quality, precisely calibrated sensors. Each PosiTector DPM probe includes a FREE Certificate of Calibration traceable to NIST and a two year warranty.

When compared to old methods like sling psychrometers, the digital PosiTector DPM is more accurate, easier to use, includes internal memory, and the PosiSoft suite of software for viewing or reporting measurement data. There’s no need to interpret complex look-up charts or use weather charts with barometric tables.

PosiTector gage bodies feature award winning probe interchangeability—allowing a single gage body to accept all environmental, coating thickness, surface profile, soluble salt, gloss, hardness, and wall thickness probes. It is backwards compatible with every PosiTector probe manufactured since 2012.

There are six Dew Point Meter probes, suitable for measuring environmental conditions in a variety of applications.

The PosiTector DPM Dew Point Meter is an Integral Probe that contains ambient temperature and humidity sensors, in addition to an integrated surface temperature sensor. At a glance, view relative humidity, air temperature, surface temperature, dew point temperature, and the all-important difference between surface and dew point temperatures. Advanced models also calculate wet bulb temperature.

The PosiTector DPM S Integral Probe with Cabled Surface Temperature Sensor features a K-type thermocouple connector. The included magnetic surface temperature probe is ideal for continuously logging surface temperatures. The optional liquid temperature sensor can measure the temperature of paints prior to application.

The PosiTector DPM A Integral Probe with Wind Speed Sensor includes the same sensors as the Integral Probe, in addition to a wind speed sensor. Using precision hot-wire anemometer technology, airspeed is measured accurately in a variety of units, with no moving parts.

The PosiTector DPM D Cabled Probe with 1/2” NPT Threads is designed for insertion into tanks or pipelines, and can measure ambient temperature, humidity, and dew point at pressures up to 100 psi or 0.69 mega pascals.

The PosiTector DPM IR Infrared Thermometer includes the same ambient temperature and humidity sensors from the PosiTector DPM plus an infrared surface temperature sensor. The infrared sensor doesn’t require contact with the surface, making the inspection of large, hot, or hard-to-reach areas quick and easy.

The PosiTector DPM L Dew Point Meter Logger attaches to steel structures to measure and record environmental parameters for up to 200 days. The PosiTector DPM L is weatherproof, dustproof and shockproof.  View live measurement data and automatically download readings using the PosiTector Advanced gage body or an Apple/Android smart device via Bluetooth Smart Technology.

All PosiTector DPM models feature the innovative Auto-Log feature, turning your dew point meter into an environmental monitoring station.

Standard models store environmental parameters at user-selected time intervals for up to 50 hours. Alternatively, use the optional AC power adapter for continuous power.

Advanced models power off between readings for up to 8 months of battery life, and can group measurements into batches on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Using the built-in WiFi connection, each reading is synchronized to the cloud for remote monitoring.

All PosiTector DPM models feature an alarm mode. When the alarm is enabled, visible and audible warnings sound when the surface temperature is within three degrees Celsius or five degrees Fahrenheit of the dew point as per international standards.

On Advanced models, custom alarm limits can be set for each parameter. When a limit is exceeded, email alerts can be sent via WiFi.

Use PosiSoft Software to view and archive readings from one or multiple PosiTector DPM meters and quickly create custom, professional reports.

The PosiTector DPM family is more versatile and powerful than ever, and is an ideal addition to any PosiTector Inspection kit.

PosiTector DPM Dew Point Meters are the simple, durable, and accurate solution for measuring environmental conditions. Backed by DeFelsko’s renowned quality, customer service, and exceptional two-year warranty, PosiTector Dew Point Meters are the ideal choice for environmental monitoring.
